
What do you think of when you see snow? YES , to get moving with the ski equipment or the snowboard outside. With the recent precipitation last few winters up north it has really been fantastic. It's important to compare brands, look for specials and also to know your size. Protection is very important in terms of frostbite prevention.
Please follow these guidelines:
Condition yourself for skiing with preseason exercises.
Take lessons to develop the ability to ski slopes of your choice.
Study trail maps to select suitable runs.
Become familiar with hill coding signs and trail markers.
Obey traffic signs and regulations set out by the ski area.
Be alert to changing weather conditions.
Know the location and phone number of the nearest first-aid station or emergency medical service.
Ski with a friend.
Secure long hair, loose clothing and scarves. They may be caught by lift or machinery parts.
Before making your first run, loosen up your muscles and check bindings on your skis for proper release.
Use properly fitted, adjusted and maintained equipment.
Use safety straps or brakes to avoid having runaway skis.
Ski under control to avoid other skiers or objects on the hill.
When skiing downhill and overtaking others, call out that you are passing to the left or right.
Skiers traversing a slope in opposite directions should pass to the right of each other.
Always stop in areas where you are visible.
Look for approaching downhill skiers before entering a slope from a side or intersection trail.
When walking or climbing in a ski area, wear skis and keep to the sides of trails or slopes.

Steamboat, Here We Come!
Although we've been enjoying our fair share of snow on the East Coast, I'm excited to say I'll be heading west tomorrow morning! That's right folks, I'm taking the About.com Snowboarding tour on the road to Steamboat for the next seven days. Steamboat, located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has already picked up over 260" of snow this season, with more forecasted to fall throughout the next seven to ten days!

U.S. Open Championship Returns to Stratton
The vaunted U.S. Open, arguably the most prestigious event on the competitive snowboarding circuit, returns to Stratton this week for the 29th year in a row. Held from March 7th through the 12th, the Open is the pinnacle of the snowboarding season, as well as the penultimate event in the Burton Global Open Series. The top female and male riders in the Global Open Series will each be awarded $100,000 this weekend.

Northstar at Tahoe
I've always felt something welcoming about the skating rink and warming area that are the centerpiece of Northstar-at-Tahoe's village. Skating is free and the open fire pits in the warming area accent the family and friends feeling of the entire resort. In fact, SKI Magazine rated it the "best village at a resort in California."
